Built in the 1860s by Welshman John Lewis, who made his fortune on the goldfields, this historic  cottage retains its traditional layout and feel with 3 bedrooms and dining room at the front, and then steps down to the modernized kitchen originally built as a separate building, and which now opens onto the cove roofed comfortable lounge.

Nestled within a rambling garden, within walking distance to Maldon’s cafes, Laurel Cottage offers delightful accommodation with old world charm.  Curl up in front of the wood fire in winter, enjoy the patio, or laze on the lawn under the trees in the summer months. Whether you're after a relaxing getaway or a base for exploring the area it's the perfect stay for a couple or small group, and comfortable for up to 5 people. Laurel Cottage offers one queen bedroom, a double with ensuite (and claw footed bath), and a single bedroom.

This is a wonderful place to stay, and its description simply does not do it justice! When you enter the cottage, you step back in time, while enjoying all modern conveniences such as Chromecast and A.C. The garden is full of birds, with tables and chairs to eat lunch or have a cup of tea. The 160-year-old (or thereabouts) cottage is pleasantly rambling, with enough spaces to be together or apart (we had one person sewing in one room, someone cooking in the kitchen, some one in the lounge reading). The beds are super comfy. It was cool on a boiling hot day, and by the looks of things very cozy on a cold day. The Maldon area is great for walks, and the town centre is amazingly well-preserved with awesome clothes shops.

Great for families

We loved staying here. It is very charming and the gardens are a beautiful fairy land for young kids . My daughter (2) loved running in the yard and it was great that it was all fenced in. Kitchen is well equipped and beds very comfy! Wood fire was lovely ! Will definitely stay again!

Wonderful Weekend at Laurel Cotttage

Laurel cottage is a wonderful place to stay, located a quiet 5-minute walk from the main shopping and eating strip of Maldon. The cottage is actually quite roomy, with touches of yesteryear in honour of its history but well equipped with modern amenities to provide a comfortable and relaxing stay. There is a big garden that is child and pet friendly. Breakfast on the terrace in the sun was a great way to start the day. I would happily stay there again and would highly recommend it to anybody. Our host Jamie has extensive knowledge of Maldon and surrounds. He is there if you need him but also happy to leave you to it should you just need time out. He is organised, professional and extremely personable and the whole experience was fantastic.
