Description

Built in the 1860s, Joseph's Cottage retains the original character and charm of a goldfields miner's cottage whilst providing all the modern indulgences you'll require for your country escape.

Perfect for a couple's romantic getaway, or for a larger group get-together - Joseph's offers a standout self-contained accommodation experience.

There are three bedrooms, two bathrooms, lounge room with an open fire place and leather couches, and a fully equipped kitchen featuring a combustion stove and a modern smeg oven. The house has been stylishly furnished throughout with antiques, collectibles and vintage homewares, and with high-quality bed linen and towels.

The cottage is set in a large, well-tended country garden; step onto the large outdoor dining deck, meander through the fruit and berry orchard, down the path through the veggie and herb patches to the henhouse at the bottom of the garden. Enjoy the ambiance of the sunken fire pit, the outdoor barbeque and even a Texan smoker!

Located close to the Victorian Goldfields Railway Steam Train, Joseph's is just a short stroll to the main street. It's a perfect base to enjoy the town's historic streetscape and goldfields' heritage, as well as antique stores, cafes and galleries. Mount Tarrengower offers walking, hiking and bike trails, and Cairn Curran Reservoir offers swimming, fishing and picnic spots. Castlemaine is 15 minutes away; or enjoy a scenic 30-minute drive to Daylesford, Kyneton, Clunes or Bendigo.

Additional touches: bottle of local wine; fresh flowers; seasonal garden fruit, herbs and veggies for picking; hen eggs for collection when girls are laying!

Relaxing country stay

We had an amazing time at Joseph Cottage! It was the perfect place to come and unwind (especially after coming straight from an international flight). My parents came along; we picked eggs in the morning for breakfast and cooked a couple of meals for quiet nights in. The house was well equipped for cooking, plenty of space (indoor and outdoor) for us to have quiet down time and great night sleeps. Thank you for the stay!

Fabulous Weekend

Joseph’s Cottage is divine. Perfectly located with a gorgeous stroll into the centre of Maldon. Beautifully set up. Miner’s cottage charm yet comfortable with modern indulgences. What a shame to have to come home again after a perfect weekend. Special thanks to Jamie. So easy and pleasant to deal with. We’ll be back!! Thank you.

It's All In The Detail

A wonderful place to stay for the weekend and enjoy the slow life. Delightful gardens, quiet deck to take in the sun, a Pimm's and some cheese, very comfortable & clean cottage with many interesting features. Recommend paying extra for the additional shower, WC & laundry. Easy walk to town centre. We loved our getaway and would love to stay again.

What a beautiful cottage ...

What a beautiful cottage Joseph's is. It felt like a home away from home and we will definitely be back! From the moment we walked in the door we were in love with Joseph's. Every comfort we could wish for is provided. The cosy fireplace, the beautiful Aga, very comfy bed and couch, gardens and chickens made for a wonderful weekend. Thank you to Jamie for recommending such a great cottage. See you again.

A little gem

What a little gem you have here and what is there not to like. It has been so relaxing to come back to. Jamie was such a delight to book through and looked after us on return.

Peace and tranquility

What a delightful few days we have enjoyed in the peace and tranquility of Joseph's Cottage. The feeling of stepping back in time with 'olde worlde' charm enhanced with some welcome new amenities, ie air conditioning! The introductory bottle of wine from the local winery - most welcome! With chickens in the bottom of the garden, and an early alarm call from the cockatoos - great! With a little imagination, it is almost possible to see and hear those from just a few generations ago. Our thanks to Jamie for his recommendations and introductory comments. A visit to Maldon we have thoroughly enjoyed.
